The experience of savoring the words on the page and allowing yourself to be taken on a journey inspired by the writer is sublime. As the author paints a picture with words, your imagination fills in the blanks until the voices of the characters and the images of these configurations resonate in your mind.

After reading and thoroughly enjoying a well-written publication, watching the film adaptation can be an interesting experience. The voices and images from the creativity are contrasted by those created by the actors, the director, and the cinematographer. It is not the experience of watching a film adaptation is necessarily bad - it is simply different. It presents a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate to your children the difference between words onto a webpage and images on a screen - and also to have a great family experience from the procedure.

Almost without fail, your kids will agree that if they appreciated the movie, the experience created by their own creativity is better. Demonstrating to your kid that their imagination is more powerful than the usual hollywood blockbuster is a really liberating and supportive exercise. Believe it or not, going through this process of reading a great book and then watching the movie really reinforces your child's love of reading in addition to the use of the imagination!

Between now and the end of the year, there are two opportunities to see a fantastic book and then to find the movie adaptation.

As a family, take the opportunity to read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before viewing the movie. Share which scenes you believe will make it in the picture and they might have to cut. Have family members choose chosen characters, and act out some scenes in the book. These types of activities build enthusiasm and set the stage for viewing the film together as a household. If you want to go all out, dress in costume to view the movie. Afterwards, discuss how the movie differed in the book, and, more importantly, how it differed in the scenes created in household members' imaginations.

You can follow exactly the same procedure by studying The Chronicles of Narnia before seeing the movie. Younger children may enjoy hearing the traditional tale of Chicken Little before seeing the Disney film of the same name. Examine the moral of the story, and, after watching the movie, talk about how the storyline in the film demonstrated the principles of this classic.
